WELCOME TO CAMERATA DEL SOL
The Professional String Orchestra
Serving Las Cruces, El paso, and Juarez
Who We Are
Camerata del Sol is an innovative group of top-notch musicians from Las Cruces, El Paso and Ciudad Juárez that seeks to bring unique chamber music experiences to the region. Founded by NMSU professor and Latin Grammy award winning violinist Daniel Vega-Albela, it was originally conceived by select players of both El Paso and Las Cruces Symphony Orchestras, in order to explore the string ensemble repertoire that full symphonies seldom perform due to the intimacy and size of its configuration. Camerata Del Sol is a 15-piece, conductorless ensemble that requires each of its members to be responsible for bringing every score we prepare to life as well as to become an integral part of the creative process.
Our mission is to fill an important gap in the musical scene of the tristate borderlands area by bringing to our audiences rarely performed works ranging from small chamber groups like duos, trios, quartets, to large chamber ensembles like string orchestra and sinfonietta. In addition to our role as a professional ensemble, the Camerata also serves as a training ensemble for exceptional students at New Mexico State University and the University of Texas at El Paso. We bring to our organization a strong outreach component by establishing a regular presence at the public schools in El Paso, Las Cruces and Juarez, as well as collaborating with the local youth orchestras. In addition, we bring top-notch soloists from all over the world, of different educational backgrounds, to teach masterclasses and engage with our community. With the understanding that music and art have the power to transcend figurative and literal borders, we will always ensure that our concerts and masterclasses are available and accessible to community members of diverse backgrounds and ages.
Camerata Del Sol is thrilled to announce our next musical project: serenade celebrations in honor of Mother's Day. We are offering two FREE serenades for this occasion:
May 8th at 7:00 PM at University United Methodist Church
May 9th at 10:00 AM at Pioneer Women's Park
Our musicians for this event are Daniel Vega-Albela, Amalia Zeitlin,
Julio Campos, and Alina Vazquez.
More About Our Driveway Serenade Series
In May 2020, Camerata del Sol launched a new initiative to bring chamber music to the community in a safe environment through our À La Carte Driveway Serenades. Throughout the summer and fall, Camerata performed dozens of serenades all across
our region, and we continue to play driveway serenades to this day.
By booking a driveway serenade, patrons have the opportunity to order from our menu of musical selections, including Classical, Baroque, Romantic, early 20th century, pop, sacred, and folk music from various cultures. We come to you. Grab a lawn chair, invite a few neighbors, and we serenade you from the comfort of your driveway or backyard. If you live in an apartment, we serenade you from below your balcony or outside your window.
For 15-20 minutes of music, our prices are as follows:
$50 for one musician
$80 for two musicians
$100 for three musicians
$120 for four musicians
$170 for a featured soloist accompanied by a quartet
